225/60 in lieu of 225/55???

Original tires for the 1987 - 1992 were P225/55VR16 Goodyear Eagle VL. For the 1993 they were P225/60ZR16 Goodyear Eagle which had a higher top speed rating.

1993 V4J Pearl Mist, 1993 Opaque White
I read in the latest mag that there were special tires made for the Allante. What make/model were they?
You will go less revolutions / mile and as result your speed will not register the proper speed. You will be off by 3.4% so if you can live with that fine, for example if you are going 65 mph on your speedometer your true speed will be 67.24 mph.
Below is chart to make comparison. You are changing the aspect ratio, as the 1st number is the width of the tire in mm, the second number is aspect ratio which the original tire is 55% of the 225mm.Divide the mm number by 25.4 will equal the inch measurement as 25.4mm = 1inch

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
225/55-16        4.9in    12.9in    25.7in         80.9in             783           0.0%
225/60-16          5.3in   13.3in    26.6in        83.7in              757          3.4%
There are more options in 225/60 plus the ability to get better brands like Pirelli or Michelin much cheaper than the cost of 55 series
I don't know much about tires. What is the advantage of 60' over 55'?
Thanks for the confirmation, Ross! Most appreciated
Jason i run 225/60s on both my 93 and my 91 with no problems

Hi all -

Hope you're all doing well! Question... can you run 225/60-16 in lieu of the 225/55-16 tires? Any issues with clearance with the struts or when turning the wheel to the left/right? Just got chrome rims for my 1991 so its a good time to get fresh rubber.

Thanks all!!!!!
