'89 boot (top) well in an '87
Author Last Post
By "boot well," do you mean the plastic tub that the entire convertible top assembly sits in?

Mine is broken, and that prevented the top from being raised, as the right quarter window was lodged against the top frame. Only by removing the spring could I raise the top, without fear of shattering that window.

It seems that the plastic tub is broken, The top seems to work well, without it being intact, but somehow, the top pull down motor does not shut off, which drains the battery (and makes that motor get HOT). I wonder if the broken plastic tray is related.

In short, I want to replace the broken tray, and I hope someone has that part for an 87.
the worst that can happen is that you cut too much. but them you can silicone it
I have it marked and I'm ready to start hacking away at it. I hope I don't need a new Allante' when it's all done. lol
I'm working on it Barry. i have a nearly 90 parts car here at my garage that should be the same dimensions as the 89.as i said if you can drive the car bring it here .if not i'll get you pics of the 90 i have...

No, I didn't see the 89, it would sure help if I did see it or had a picture of it.

So, it's the metal that needs to be cut and formed. I never would have thought of doing that.

I'll get a picture of the opening tomorrow sometime and post it. Maybe you could mark the areas that need tinsmithing.

You're right joining this club, being here is a big help to me.
Hi Barry, good thing you joined the club. Im here to help, your welcome to call me but you need to cut and bend both sides under the boot well. did you remove the one of the 89? if you did go back and look how its cut. you need to keep cutting and hammering it down till if fits right.
I'm trying to put a boot well from a 1989 in a 1987. My original was all cracked to pieces and little slivers.

The new one doesn't drop right in. I can't get the rear to seat, seems like something in the pulldown motor area is holding it about 1/4"-3/8" above where it needs to be screwed onto. The front is about 5"-6" up in the air. It looks to me like the rear corners and some of the sides needs to be cut away.

I looked up, down and sideways at this and I can't see anything other than the rear corners and part way down the sides need to be removed. That will really weaken the whole thing so I'm reluctant start cutting.

I have everything removed, pulldown motor and latch assembly, soft top cover latches, and two vertical carpeted panels inside the trunk. Those panels positively need to be shortened.

Does anybody know where to cut to make this fit? Anybody know where I can get a good well from a 1987 which should drop right in?
